Bachelor of Laws (LLB) / Bachelor of Business

The five-year Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Business double degree at Edith Cowan University combines a new law degree program (subject to recognition by the Legal Practice Board) with an existing business degree program. The double degree provides students with lifelong transferable skills equipping them for employment in a wide range of professions, and for further study in a variety of disciplines.

Note: The ECU Law Degree is an approved degree for the purposes of s27 (2) (a) (i) of the Legal Practice Act 2003. Specific recognition of Years One and Two has been granted by the Legal Practice Board. Subsequent years will be submitted to the Board for approval as required.

It should be noted that until the entire Law Degree is accredited, no absolute guarantee can be given that persons obtaining the Law Degree will not be required to obtain other academic requirements in order to be qualified for admission as a Legal Practitioner in Western Australia.

Admission requirements

Bachelor of Laws - Entry to Law programs may require a TER (or equivialent) above that applying for minimum university entry. Applicants must satisfy English competency. Special requirements may be required.

Bachelor of Business - Applicants must satisfy English or English Literature competency. TEE Mathematics is desirable.

Course structure

The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) / Bachelor of Business consists of 690 credit points (46 units x 15 credit points). The program will include 21 LLB core units and 11 LLB elective units and 14 Bachelor of Business units.

Electives

It is the intention of the School of Law and Justice to introduce further electives, allowing students some degree of choice in the units undertaken, to complete the law degree. At this time, the following units are elective units. Each unit is 15 credit points unless otherwise indicated. Students should check with the School of Law and Justice to determine which elective units are offered by the University in any semester and any pre-requisites before enrolling.

Bachelor of Business

A student must complete units to a total value of 210 credit points (14 units) from either the Bachelor of Business (Accounting) or Bachelor of Business (Management).

Bachelor of Business (Accounting) Component

Plus 120 credit points (8 units) from the Accounting Major below

Bachelor of Business (Management) Component

Plus 2 units chosen from:

Plus 120 credit points (8 units) from the Management Major below.

Accounting Major

Note: Students should not undertake LAW2300 within this program as it will be satisfied by completing LAW3102 Corporations Law III.

Management Major

Plus 3 units chosen from:

Students should not complete LAW2120 as they will complete LAW2105 Employment Law as part of the LLB program.
