Graduate Certificate: Sport Management

Ruth has over 10 years experience working in the health, fitness and recreation industry in Perth, Melbourne and Newcastle and has been involved in volunteer work for local sport clubs for a number of years. She is currently a member of the Northern Metropolitan Regional Recreation Advisory Committee and the Department of Sport and Recreation Advisory Panel.

Through her PhD research Ruth examined the impact that global and commercial forces have on the management and administration of local sports organisations in terms of gender power relations, commercial sponsorship, media practices and government involvement.

Ruth knows that students have a range of educational and life experiences and she draws on these to enrich the classroom environment.

She works with students to expand upon the knowledge they already have about the sport and recreation industries and encourages them to work towards building a knowledge base and skill set that will put them in a strong position in the workforce.
