Law School gives northern suburbs accessible legal advice
ECU Law and Justice students will feel the benefits of working with real clients, who have real legal issues to deal with, now that a new Community Law Centre has been opened at ECU Joondalup.
Not only will the centre provide exciting opportunities for students to gain invaluable practical experience in a real-world professional environment, it will also provide a valuable service to the community.
The centre will initially be open two days per week and students will have the opportunity to volunteer to assist in legal research under the supervision of legal practitioners. To volunteer e-mail Rupert Johnson at rupert.johnson@ecu.edu.au. Full Story >>
Student Association says Bon Voyage to Semester 1
Business and Law students sang for their supper at their Bon Voyage to Semester 1 party. With Karaoke in full swing, plus a sausage sizzle and a free drink, the ECU Tavern was swarming with more than 200 students kicking up their heels before exams. Let's hope these social events continue to gain momentum in Semester 2. Join the Business and Law Student Association if you want to liven up the campus next semester. Contact c.parsons@ecu.edu.au for more info.
Business Edge students impress industry leaders
The top ten students in the new Business Edge unit have wrapped up the semester by showing industry leaders what they're made of. A panel of guests judged students' final presentations on the topic ‘Nuclear Energy and Uranium Trading from a Corporate Perspective’. The panel included Will Robinson from Encounter Resources, Ainslie van Onselen from the Legal Practice Board and political analyst Associate Professor Peter van Onselen.
The panel named Naomi Berry as the overall winner for the best presentation based on her boardroom communication skills. Naomi appreciated the experience: “This has been a great opportunity to get feedback from experts and start using the skills we've learned,” she said.

Due to graduate this semester?
If you're due to graduate this semester make sure you'll be identified by checking your progression in SIMO. If you're short on credit points, perhaps you've forgotten to apply for Advanced Standing?
Are your majors/minors/specialisations recorded? If not, contact Student Central. Have you met your course requirements? Or maybe you're in an older 22 unit course — if you have Advanced Standing for unspecified units, we may not have identified you. If in doubt, please contact your Student Information Officer as soon as possible.
Calling for Orientation volunteers
ECU is preparing for Semester 2 Orientation and we need your help. To make our new students feel welcome volunteers are needed for the arrival reception, meet and greet services, welcome centres, campus tours, social events and more.
The Orientation Volunteer Program runs throughout the whole month of July and you're free to choose your level of involvement and areas of participation.
To volunteer, e-mail volunteers@ecu.edu.au and include your full name, student number, contact number and home campus.
