Financial Assistance
HECS-HELP
If you are a Commonwealth supported student, you may be eligible for a HECS-HELP loan to pay your student contribution amount for a unit of study in which you are enrolled. There are two forms of HECS-HELP assistance:
- HECS-HELP loan
This is a loan from the Australian Government for all or part of your student contribution amount. You do not need to start repaying your HECS-HELP debt until your annual income is above the minimum threshold for compulsory repayment. - HECS-HELP discount
If you pay all, or at least $500, of your student contribution amount for units with the same census date up-front, you will receive a 20% discount on the amount you pay.
FEE-HELP
FEE-HELP is a loan scheme that assists eligible students to pay their tuition fees. FEE-HELP can cover all of a student's tuition fees, up to a lifetime limit of $50,000 (indexed each year).
Students repay the loan through the tax system once their income is above the minimum threshold for compulsory repayment. An interest rate is not applied to FEE-HELP debts, however debts are indexed each year to maintain their real value.
Students can apply for a FEE-HELP loan by completing a Request for FEE-HELP Assistance form available on student SIMO accounts. The Australian Taxation Office offers a 10% discount to students who make voluntary repayment on the HELP debt in excess of $500. Voluntary repayments to the ATO can only be made at the end of semester.
