40 Under 40 Awards
Once again the Faculty of Business and Law is proud to be a strategic alliance partner of the WA Business News 40 Under 40 Awards, which celebrate the success of WA business people.
Since its inception in 2002, business entrepreneurs under the age of 40 have been nominated for the awards for their success and contribution to the WA community. 40 of the top nominees are selected each year to receive an award in recognition of their outstanding achievements. These awards recognise not only the determination and commercial drive of these individuals but also the philanthropic pursuits that balance their corporate achievements.
Past winners of 40 Under 40 Awards have included small and medium enterprise owners and directors; managers and executives in both private and public sector; and staff from WA tertiary institutions. The Faculty is proud to list Dr Ian Martinus, an ECU Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Business Administration (Information Systems) graduate, among the list of winners.
Apart from the professional recognition of receiving a prestigious 40 under 40 award, one of the 40 recipients is named “1st Among Equals” and this year will receive a prize pack of travel, luggage and jewellery to the value of approximately $30 000.
Nominations for the 2006 awards have now closed - watch this space for announcement of the winners in February 2006.

Students Awarded for Leisure and Sport
Leisure and Sport Management students have been given the opportunity to get creative and produce posters as part of their course. The posters represent the 160 hours they have dedicated to working for organisations on Industry Practice projects this semester.
Students presented their posters at an awards ceremony attended by Faculty staff and representatives from leisure and recreation industries.
Sport Management student, Mischa Beyelers’ poster was voted ’Best Poster’ by the student group. During his industry practice he worked with the Department of Sport and Recreation on the Bickley Outdoor Recreation Camps.
Mischa was also the recipient of one of the two Dr Heather MacGowan OAM Professional Practice Prizes awarded on the day. The other prize was awarded to Leisure Science student, Derek Nicholson, who spent his industry practice working with the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure organisation on a project that helped to map the Leeuwin program to the school curriculum.
Industry Practice is a third year unit taken in the Sport Management and Leisure Management majors within the Bachelor of Business course. The unit will also be part of the new Bachelor of Leisure Sciences and Bachelor of Sport Management courses for 2006. These courses will replace the Sport Management and Leisure Science majors within the Bachelor of Social Science.

Business On The Move Update
The Churchlands campus will be closing down in a few years time. When Churchlands closes, the Business postgraduate coursework and part-time undergraduate programs will relocate to ECU’s other near-City campus at Mount Lawley. At this stage, it is anticipated that the Faculty will relocate no earlier than Semester 1, 2008.
Consequently, the move will only affect those students currently enrolled in part time undergraduate business and post graduate business programs studying at Churchlands who will be continuing studies in 2008.
In the next three years, a new building will be constructed at Mount Lawley to house the Business Faculty and its teaching programs. A new multi-storey car park is also planned for construction at Mount Lawley to handle the increased staff and students that will move to the campus after Churchlands closes. Other student facilities at Mount Lawley will also be upgraded during this time to meet the increased student numbers.
For the remaining years at Churchlands, the Faculty is committed to offering a high standard of service to our students and the same high quality teaching programs.
The Faculty is working closely with the University’s Campus Consolidation Committee to ensure that all our needs are being met in relation to all aspects of this move. We aim to minimise any disruption to student programs and would like to hear from you if you have any individual concerns. Please feel free to contact us by email to business@ecu.edu.au or telephone Business Reception on +61 (0)8 9273 8696.
Updated information will be placed on our web site (www.business.ecu.edu.au) as it becomes available.
