How will the Business and Law Campus Consolidation affect me?

The Faculty is mindful of minimising the impact of the move on staff and students. Staff are actively working to ensure that the transition is a smooth experience and doesn't affect the level of services and facilities currently provided.

Why is ECU closing Churchlands Campus?

ECU has embarked on a strategic campus consolidation plan to provide more higher education opportunities in areas of high demand and growth. As part of this plan, ECU has State Government approval to redevelop its Churchlands Campus as a high quality housing estate and use the proceeds from land sales to improve resources at its other metropolitan campuses in Joondalup and Mount Lawley.

Do I have an opportunity to provide feedback on the Faculty's plans?

Key groups within the ECU Community, including staff and students, will be invited to provide feedback on the project at various points in the process.

Where will the postgraduate coursework programs be held after Churchlands closes?

The majority of postgraduate coursework programs will be offered at Mount Lawley once the Churchlands campus closes.

Will any Churchlands students move to Joondalup?

Most students and courses based at Churchlands will move to the Mount Lawley campus once the building and refurbishments on that campus are complete. Some courses and students will move to Joondalup in line with the Faculty's activites in Perth's North metropolitan corridor.

Where will postgraduate coursework programs be held after Churchlands Campus closes?

The majority of postgraduate coursework programs will be offered at Mount Lawley once the Churchlands Campus closes.

Where will the part-time undergraduate programs be held after Churchlands Campus closes

The majority of part-time undergraduate programs be offered at Mount Lawley once the Churchlands Campus closes.

Where will the research programs be held after the Churchlands Campus closes?

The majority of postgraduate research programs will be offered at Joondalup Campus from 2008.

Where will academic staff be located after Churchlands closes?

The Faculty's academic staff will have permanent offices located on Joondalup Campus. Those located on Churchlands Campus are currently scheduled to move to Joondalup during June 2008.

Once teaching commences at Mount Lawley lecturers will have work stations on that Campus and will publish the times they are available for student consultations.

Will there be any Business and Law staff permanently based at Mount Lawley Campus?

Once teaching commences there will be a small number of Business and Law staff based permanently at Mount Lawley. Staff with permanent offices on that Campus will be limited to the Director of Postgraduate Studies and staff in the Business and Law student information centre.

If my course is changing campus, can I switch campus prior to the move?

Once relocation plans are finalised, the Faculty will encourage affected students to consider switching campus at the earliest possible opportunity.

Is there a timeline for these moves?

Current plans are for academic staff to be relocated to Joondalup by mid 2008 at the latest and research students to be relocated to Joondalup at the end of 2007.

There will be a series of relocations on Joondalup Campus as part of the Faculty's consolidation strategy to ensure Schools and affiliated centres are located in close proximity, to enable relocation of staff from Churchlands Campus and to account for short-to-mid-term growth within the Faculty.

The move of part-time undergraduate and postgraduate coursework courses from Churchlands Campus to Mount Lawley is currently planned for mid-2008.

How will I receive news and updates?

The Faculty will communicate updates through several means:

  • This web page, and
  • Business Matters, and
  • individual correspondence to affected staff and students

The Faculty intends to notify staff and continuing students affected by the move of final details at least one teaching semester prior to any moves taking place. This may change, depending on the planning and building process.
