Business and Law units online semester 2, 2008
This outlines the process for the development of online (Blackboard) sites for all B & L units.
(1) Rollover information must be provided to Resource Development (CLT) by 15th June. This process is coordinated by Clare Alderson (ext 6764) (c.alderson@ecu.edu.au). CLT will advise unit coordinators that the rollover information is required. Clare will also advise unit coordinators when their semester 2, 2008 sites are available.
(2) Updated resources must be available in each Blackboard site (by 9th July) before students gain access to the Semester 2, 2008 unit sites. Carole Reid (ext 6149/5826) (c.reid@ecu.edu.au) can assist with any queries.
By the start of semester units must contain at least:
- current staff information,
- the Unit Plan (based on the Faculty template),
- the Unit Outline. To generate the Unit Outline navigate to the Enrolment Approved version of the unit outline on CMS. Click on the unit code > Generate report > right click on the link to download the document to your desktop,
- links to readings on eReserve. Please do not upload readings directly to the Blackboard site. All readings must go through the eReserve system to make sure that copyright is not being violated. You can provide direct links to external websites.
- any resources required for students to begin their first assignment.
(3) eReserve requests should be submitted before the end of the previous semester.
Where readings have been made available via eReserve, the Library will liaise with lecturers at the end of each year on the availability of the readings for the following year. Readings will not be automatically carried over from one semester to the next unless requested by the unit coordinator. Please make sure the library receives this request in good time. Contact Agnes (ext 5336) (a.noronha@ecu.edu.au) if you need more information.
(4) The Student Information content area (of the Blackboard site) will be automatically uploaded from the FBL template into all FBL unit sites to provide students with quick access to relevant important information. Please do not remove items from this content area. Feedback on the usefulness of this information and suggestions on additional requirements will be much appreciated.
Contact Carole Reid (ext 6149/5826) (c.reid@ecu.edu.au) or Daniel Boase-Jelinek (ext 2140) (d.boase_jelinek@ecu.edu.au) for information or assistance.

Standard site structure:
The Faculty Minimum Standards specify the organisation of all FBL Blackboard sites. Having the sites configured similarly in all units helps students navigate their way around their units and makes it easier to maintain unit sites. If required, lecturers may change the structure to suit the particular unit's needs, but should attempt to keep information-related areas at the top of the menu, resources in the middle section, and communication tools in the bottom section.Templates
Unit plans
A template (DOT 119KB)
is available to use as a framework for preparing unit plans.
Please note the requirement to provide clear instructions on how students should submit their assignments. Use of the Assignment Manager function in Blackboard is strongly recommended (Offcampus Support will not receive or track assignment submission for OL SUP units, and all offcampus units in FBL are offered OL SUP).
